The Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) is the first component to becoming a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). Within two years of passing the exam, CPhTs are required to attend 20 hours of continued education. More information on re-certification can be found on the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Website – Re-certification.
The PTCB Exam has 80 multiple-choice questions, each with four possible answers. The test is comprised of three separate sections:
- Assisting the Pharmacist in Serving Patients – 66%
- Maintaining Medication and Inventory Control Systems – 22%
- Participating in the Administration and Management of Pharmacy Practice – 12%
Questions related to the various sections will be strewn randomly throughout the exam, as opposed to being given in discrete sections.
