The Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) is the first component to becoming a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). Within two years of passing the exam, CPhTs are required to attend 20 hours of continued education. More information on recertification can be found on the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Website - Recertification.
The PTCB Exam has 80 multiple-choice questions, each with four possible answers. The test is comprised of three separate sections:
Questions related to the various sections will be strewn randomly throughout the exam, as opposed to being given in discrete sections.
The PTCE is now available on a rolling basis at Pearson testing facilities across the United States. Search for the testing location closest to you at the Pearson VUE website.
Applicants must first apply to take the test, either by mail or online. Once the Authorization to Take Test (ATT) is received, the candidate will be able to register for a specific session. Any questions about the process can be sent via e-mail to PTCB@proexam.org. Alternately, questions can be asked over the phone at 1-877-782-2888. Instructions, guidelines for the application, as well as the online application itself, can be found on the PTCB Exam Web Application.
